It's a sunny, warmish day here in the big city. Since I am relaxing & tooling around in the confines of these four walls (OK, I did get the mail & I did empty the cat litter - two, count them two!, trips to the front porch), I have spent a huge amount of time at the computer & on-line.
This tho't will not come as a NEWSFLASH to anyone & could be a "D'oh!" tho't but bear w/me: there are so many blogs out there about knitting. Holey moley.
As I scanned, read & lollygagged over a goodly number of them, I read many interesting posts. One caught my attention on the very cool Zen Knit blog. The author wrote about her 2005 Knitting Review & it was based on something she had read on another blog. She recounted all the fabulous items (by category) she had knit in 2005. She's quite prolific.
Cool idea.
Since we already know that I'm a list maker, I found this to be a great idea. And since I want to increase my knitting output, I plan to use this list making technique so that I can be accountable to myself for what I do this year.
It would be easy to start a post to myself that I add to as items go from the UFO to the FO pile.
What do you think? Cool idea or no?
As the 2005 Knitter's Review calendar says, it's Stash Cleaning time.
Do you know where your Stash is?

Your Brain is 73.33% Female, 26.67% Male

Your brain leans female

You think with your heart, not your head

Sweet and considerate, you are a giver

But you're tough enough not to let anyone take advantage of you!

What Gender Is Your Brain?
These quizzes - tests - questionnaires are often like good parlor games. They can be some of, none of or a lot of the following: fun, goofy, insightful, bogus, worth the time it takes to click off the answers &/or full of zany questions.
So I leave you w/this one that hopefully is a tad interesting & not necessarily definitive but contains a little food for tho't (could that be dessert for tho't?).

Lucky me: an evening with Purlewe!
She came to the house this past Monday to keep me company & while we hung out, we chatted, laughed, listened & talked, drank a glass of wine, dreamed of our next projects & knitted.
After the Knitter's Review Retreat last Fall, we were given a donation of some yarns which we plan to use for the Dulaan Project. (Since I have had major mojo trouble w/the Dulaan button, please go to Mossy Cottage or Purlewe & click on the Dulaan button for more info, should you need it.) The donation of this yarn was a late donation from a Retreat attendee, P, via some help w/the mailing from Can a CPA Be a Knitter Too?, C.
Purlewe was working on a Clapotis & it is so beautiful that the Tom Sawyer, "Gee, can I help you paint that fence?" behavior seeped into my brain. Yes, I printed out the pattern from Knitty & will be reviewing the stash for a good fit of a yummy yarn & this pattern. I do realize that this pattern has been floating around for a while & yes, I know that it has been "all the rage" - whatever that means. My personality seems to shy away from the "in-thing to do" & the books that are on the "best seller" lists, save for Harry Potter, so I realize that I am coming to see the lovely qualities of this scarf/shawl way later than most. Having said that, it is A-OK w/me to be thinking about it now & not before this.
As so many of us (Like The Queen, Rose By Any, Bossy Little Dog) have been saying on our blogs, "And now for something completely different: let's shop from our own stash 1st." I am excited to see what I have that I can use for the Clapotis.
Knitting progress for me: the Large Lap Robe is done! Wa hoo. I have sewn in all the loose yarn ends. It is beautiful & I give the credit to the bulky merino from Spirit Trail Fiberworks. The Harris Tweed Rib stitch is a wonderful pattern & I shall use it again. Can't wait to give it to my friend E as a house warming gift.
Since there will be work on some Dulaan projects that will be sent their way this Spring, I tho't it would be good to knit a couple of small scarves for smaller children. Last night I cast on a scarf using three strands of DK weight dark blue &/or tweedy light blue yarns along w/a strand of a bulkier sea green yarn. It is a good looking, little person scarf. And it's a quick turn-around, almost instant gratification project.
Ya know, you gotta do those once in a while & to do them for such a worthwhile charity project is a double high.

YOU ARE CHAMOMILE
Which herb are you?

Brrr. Winter is making her presence felt w/ authority - it is very very cold today. Toward the end of the last business week, we had balmy temps in the high 50s & low 60s. Dig out your warmest gloves, scarves & socks, kids - we need them.
Don't you love knitting a large, wool & thus warm project in the depths of a cold day? Me too. The "large lap robe" from the bulky merino from Spirit Trail is a joy to knit 1) anytime at all & 2) especially when it can keep me warm at the same time. Jennifer, the yarn is so sweet & I know my friend will love it.
The Knitting Pure & Simple V-neck sweater is also a joy to knit. One sleeve is this close to completion - I am on the very last row or two of the ribbed cuff! Wa hoo. The body is 3/4 done. After I complete the left sleeve, I shall finish the body before I begin the right sleeve. My knitting pals who have seen this project have liked the color of the yarn (a pale blue grey w/the emphasis on the blue) & the look of it (there are little tweedy flecks of a navy-ish blue & white). The yarn is easy on the hands.
My other projects seem to be languishing as I try to complete these two.
Last Saturday was a very special day - I spent a goodly chunk of it w/ Rose By Any & Purlewe. We met at a store midday between where we all live. These two women are sweethearts, smart, funny, tho'tful, loving & creative. How lucky am I to have them in my life!
As I will have some down time over the next couple of weeks, I have made a big to-do list.
~~~Are you a list maker? It seems to be the best way for me to organize myself & to offer me the best odds of completing what needs to be done.~~~
Here are some of my goals:
<< Resting & relaxing!
<< Knitting, knitting, knitting - what else is new ^..^ I have two socks on the needles from two different yarns & hope to complete them. I can add to the SOCKS total from Rose By Any's campaign. Scope out the sidebar for her button for this.
<< Quilting & sewing - I have two quilts that are tops on the list. Both are totally cut out - all there is to do is sew! There are a number of other projects I hope to tackle - making pillow cases, treasure sacks for kids, catnip bags.
<< Taxes - yep, it does seem early to do them. However when I know the "state" of them, I feel that I can get a handle on my stress level. Grrr, taxes.
<< The continuation of my "clean up & clean out" stuff that we have here in the house. I have made excellent progress over the last few months - that feels very good!
Happy 2006 to you & yours.
Here's hoping this year brings you lots of love, yummy yarns, good books, hot cups of your fav tea, time w/those you treasure, light, health & time for yourself.
The holidays here at Marfa-Central were filled w/lots of work (the many kitties whose families were away needed many visits over the holidays), too much coffee to aid in keeping me alert & awake for the looooonnnng work days (thank God, caffeine is legal!), too little sleep & some personal time (A & I had special dinners together on Xmas Eve & New Year's Ever & on 12/31, we saw "The Squid and the Whale" - excellent movie!) . Wow, Babe, we saw two movies in the theater in a month - over the past few years, that is a new record for us.
There has been very little knitting done since just before Christmas. I have been working on the lap robe - it's probably 2/3s done. The word "probably" is used because I am not sure if I will use all the balance of the beautiful Spirit Trail Fiberworks yarn or if I will leave some for the recipient (just in case as my g'mother would have said) &/or some for another itty-bitty project like some fingerless gloves or a Stash Buster stole as described by Clara in a recent Knitter's Review.
My Pure & Simple V-neck sweater is also progressing - one sleeve is 3/4s done & the body of it is 2/3s done. This is a cool sweater & I look forward to completing it & wearing it.
There are some new links on the sidebar - some new-to-me blog links & a new area for what I am reading & the books I am hearing (thanks, Not Plain Jane, for the idea) on CDs or on tape.
Do check out the 2006 socks button (great idea, Rose By Any, as are most of your ideas!). This sounds like a way-cool project. And more importantly, it might get me off my buttocks in the "finish up the socks that have been on the needles for way too long" department.
The upcoming schedule for the next few weeks will give me more knitting time & I'm ready!!
