The good news?
That is this: I am a few days away from the craziness & busy-zee-ness of a schedule that has me working lots of hours w/ the "new" job & my pet sitting job.
The bad news?
Can I make it through those few days that are left?
"I know I can...I know I can" has been my mantra as I count down the days. And yet, it (the last gasp of this schedule) feels pretty elusive to me.
This is a sentiment I have gone through many a time in August - this year however, by Gawd, it is really true.
Soon I will be able to attend Fiber Nights at the home of my beloved pals, Purlewe & Sue, I'll be able to see pals for dinner or a cuppa of something yummy, I'll be able to take some spinning lessons from Purlewe, I'll have a life.
Hot damn. I do believe I can make it!

Wake up calls come in all sizes & shapes.
After a career of working w/ companion animals w/ little human face-to-face interactions during my work days, I now have a job that is all people - all the time. Recently I found myself around folks who were battling summer colds & someone "recovering" or so she said, from bronchitis.
Yes, I got that summer cold & yes, I got a cough. And no, I am not totally over either.
It's my wake-up call: w/ other colds or little virus bugs, I would treat myself w/ herbs & Vitamin C & generally would be fine & dandy in no time at all. Not this time. Since I know that my immune system will be exposed to lots & lots of coughs & sneezes & sniffles this year, I am already looking toward what I need to do to stay as healthy as I can.
Many things are the obvious ones - enough sleep, eating well, staying emotionally & mentally upbeat, a good vitamin routine & keeping my fingers crossed ^..^
While I was sitting on the couch at night (before dozing off as I did many a night), I knitted the Two Old Bags project. We are in the home stretch! On the TV to keep me company, I had the "Deadwood" DVDs from the Library. Extraordinary writing & acting.
Nice news on the kitty front: Natalie had an excellent check-up w/our favorite & best vet, Dr. Small. Kathy had been concerned about some things she had felt in N's last physical exam. Luckily for us, her exam yesterday was normal & wa hoo, we do not need to go back until November when both Natalie & Jeremy are due for follow up exams & blood work!

Porches
There was a lovely feature on NPR this evening on All Things Considered about porches & the importance of them. Much of the story concerned the Southern porch - of course, dear B & J, I tho't of you two.
Here in the middle of where I live, some people do sit on their porches or decks - that's not a habit I have taken to as the city noises eat at the soul of my sense of hearing - those cars, those planes overhead, the traffic noises in general - you get the drift of this, right?
One thing I dream of & hope to have in the next abode we find ourselves in is a screened-in porch. Wouldn't Natalie & Jeremy love that? Wouldn't I love that? Yes to both ??s.
My good pal, P, who moved to Huntington, W VA a couple of years ago (yes, I still miss her like the dickens!) has a screened-in porch - ah, it's lovely. I am sitting here at the computer desk smiling at the tho't of a porch. Yes, dearest B, yours made me smile as I tho't of it.
Dreams do count for a lot. Here's the start of one of mine. Thanks for the sharing of it.

Jane is spot on ...
about the heat & the effects of the heat & humidity on us all. Well said, hon.
Bess has a fabulous post about it too.
Last evening I was invited for dinner at a home that has no AC - curses, it's in the low 100s here, how to manage that? This person grew up in Brazil & is accustomed to heat. So, I phoned & said that meeting at a local restaurant bar for a salad, sandwich & beer sounded pretty easy. We agreed & wa la, we were able to sit in a smoke fee & AC-ed place. Yes, it was much better.
Most of my client homes that I am currently in have AC - can I hear that "Hurrah" again?
Today I met a friend for a cold cuppa at a local coffee spot. Arriving early, I walked around to find her. Although I did not see her, I saw someone knitting & of course, I said hello & asked about her project. While I waited for my friend, we chatted about our love of knitting. At one point she talked about a recent project she was doing & mentioned that when she knew she needed more info, she went straightway to the Knitter's Review Forum. "Of course," she said, "I'm on the Forum." Honestly, I had not mentioned our beloved Clara or anything! This woman brought KR up all by herself. Isn't that great?
The Two Handled Bag continues to chug along. I am hopeful to get back very soon to my UFO list & plug away at it. After Labor Day, my sitting schedule will have abated & I can garden, knit, continue the clean-up of the basement, clean the house in a thorough fashion & exercise in earnest & w/ regularity again.
It's also time to dream some new dreams - what do I want for myself, how to move toward those things, what would I like for myself & my life. I am excited about this new adventure.
